Bishop Carroll Announces Drama Director

At the end of June, Bishop Carroll Catholic High School tragically lost beloved Drama Director Samantha Brisini at the age of 37.  Samantha worked tirelessly over the past six years to run a successful program that was created with a strong foundation over many years.  The entire school community wants to build and celebrate the program as well as honor Samantha’s dedication and legacy.

Mrs. Gabrielle Lechak will be taking over as director of the program.  Mrs. Lechak previously held the role of director from 2012-2020 before passing the program on to her close friend, Samantha Brisini.  Gabrielle commented, “Sam was one of my best friends for more than half of my life.  When I passed the torch to her to focus on growing my family, I always hoped I’d have the chance to come back and help someday.  While I am excited to return, it will never be the same without her.  The drama program is something we both poured our hearts into over the years, and I feel a responsibility – and an honor – to continue building on the incredible foundation she created.  She truly came into her own as director, and I hope to keep that light burning just as brightly in her memory.”

Mrs. Lechak is beginning her 8th year of teaching 8th grade at Saint Michael School in Loretto, a feeder grade school for Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and a master’s degree in Secondary Education.  She has been involved in over 50 productions as an actor, director, and stage manager.  Her and her husband Jason are parents to two wonderful young girls, Lily and Ellie.

Bishop Carroll principal Jonathan Nagy is very pleased to have Gabrielle on board, commenting, “While the loss of Samantha Brisini has been difficult for the entire school community, we are honored that Gabrielle has chosen to come back aboard, both to lead the program, and to honor Samantha.  Mrs. Lechak will also serve as a bridge between the elementary schools and Bishop Carroll, as the drama program includes many younger students.  Our prayers are with Gabrielle as she takes the helm, and our continued prayers are with the Brisini family.  The Bishop Carroll drama program is strong, full of amazing students and supporters.  We are grateful for Gabrielle and her leadership.”

While Gabrielle Lechak knows she has big shoes to fill, she is excited for the opportunity to be the leader and role model that the students need at this time.  She adds, “Stepping back into this role is incredibly meaningful, but it’s also emotional.  The amount of support that’s already been offered as we move this program forward has been truly overwhelming, and I know I’ll need that support now more than ever while also balancing life as a mom.  Please continue to offer your help, don’t be shy, and together we’ll make sure this program continues to thrive while honoring everything Sam built.”

Gabrielle, along with the school community and drama family, will be developing ways to honor Samantha in the coming year.  Gabrielle said, “It is important that we honor her in ways that reflect the love and dedication she gave to this program.”

The Bishop Carroll community is grateful to Mrs. Lechak for stepping in and taking the reins of the program.  We look forward to her contributions in this important role.
