FINANCIAL AID

Tuition and Financial Aid

Bishop Carroll is committed to making a Catholic education available to all students and families who seek this opportunity. Tuition is affordable and tuition assistance is available thanks to the generosity of the many alumni donors and friends of BC who believe in our mission. By offering several forms of financial aid and tuition assistance, we can help as many eligible students as possible achieve their goal of obtaining a high-quality, values-based education.

The gross tuition for the 2024-2025 school year will be $7,900. However, for the 2023-2024 school year, the parents/guardians of about 180 students applied for financial aid and the average award was close to $4,000.  With larger than usual EITC donations, we anticipate greater financial aid packages for the 2024-2025 school year.

Here is an example of the financial breakdown:

(financial aid amount not shown, determined at a later date)

Total Gross Tuition (based on 24-25 expenses, this is NOT your net cost)               $13,500

Less:  BC Development Scholarship (automatically given)                         (5,600)

Parent Cost                                                                                                                  $7,900

               Less:  Financial Aid award                                                                           (X,XXX)

Net Tuition                                                                                                                   $X,XXX

               Plus fees (registration, technology & athletic/activity)                                      420

Net Tuition & Fees (amount that you will pay)                                                             $X,XXX

With flexible payment plans customized to accommodate individual circumstances, your child could earn a high-quality Catholic education.

Financial Aid through Simple Tuition Solutions (STS) and Scholarships

Tuition Assistance
Tuition per student is $7,900 for the 2024-2025 school year. Over 80% of families applied and received financial aid, with the average award nearing $4,000, leaving an average remaining tuition of less than $4,000.

The Second Century Scholarship Fund
The Second Century Scholarship Fund supports students with financial need who are enrolled in a Catholic pre-school, elementary school, or high school with the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. A STS application must be completed to be eligible for Second Century Scholarship funds (see next page for STS information).

Named Scholarships
Beginning at $500, Alumni Scholarships from the Bishop Carroll Alumni Association are awarded annually, allowing BC Alumni to help continue the school’s tradition of high-quality Catholic education. A student need not belong to a Diocesan Parish to receive Alumni Scholarships. A STS application must be completed to be eligible for Alumni Scholarships.

Endowments
Established through the generosity of several families, the annual proceeds from endowments provide financial assistance to motivated students, enabling them to choose a value-centered Catholic learning environment. Non-Catholic students are invited to apply. A STS application must be completed to be eligible for financial assistance from endowments.

Central PA Scholarship Fund
Similar to the Second Century Fund, this is also a needs-based support program that relies on the donations of individuals and businesses through the EITC program. The recipients do not have to be a member of an Altoona-Johnstown Parish. A STS application must be completed to be eligible for financial assistance from the Central PA Scholarship Fund.

The Financial Aid Process

Obtaining financial aid for a Bishop Carroll education can be done in 3 steps

Step 1: Attend the Open House/Financial Aid Info Night

A financial aid presentation is made every year at Open House in January. Parents of 8th grade students or any student new to Bishop Carroll in attendance will be entered in a special drawing for two $250 scholarships. Both registration information and financial aid information will be distributed, and additional school information and STS Financial Aid application info will be distributed.

Step 2: STS Financial Aid Application

In order to ensure a fair and impartial analysis, Bishop Carroll uses the STS Financial Aid to Determine Eligibility for Tuition Assistance for the upcoming school year. STS is the fastest and most direct method of submitting your application, and it can be reviewed electronically within minutes of submission. Qualifications are based on many factors, including but not limited to, household income, family size, number of children in college, or Catholic elementary and high schools, number of working parents, the value of parents’ assets, household expenses and others.

The STS submission deadline has been extended, call 814-472-7500 for more details.

Specific instructions on how to apply are available online at https://app.simpletuitionsolutions.org/register?sc+20460 and will also be available at the Open House. The School or Scholarship Organization Code is 20460. Bishop Carroll will also hold one financial aid instructional seminar during February to assist you with the application.

The application process also requires the submission of tax data for the most current year. The tax data required includes W-2’s and all tax schedules supporting your most recent tax return. The tax data MUST be provided to Simple Tuition Solutions on or before April 15, unless the applicant has filed for an extension.

STEP 3: In May, financial aid awards will be mailed. Families who seek additional aid or personalized payment options may contact Business Manager Lynn Weber at [email protected] or by phone at 814.472.7500 extension 107.
