Moving Bishop Carroll Forward

Moss does not have time to grow underfoot on Husky Hill! Many wonderful things have happened since summer and will continue to happen as we move further into the school year and beyond. Some items are not listed here as they are larger stories in this newsletter. Here is a summarized partial list of some of the new things at Bishop Carroll!

ACADEMICS

  • New courses have been added - Today’s Tech Engineering, Aviation 2, Sports Administration, Practical Skills, and a revamped Computer Apps course. Next year, students will begin the PCT (Patient Care Technician) program with Saint Francis University.
  • New opportunities through various trips and clubs - TSA, Stock Market Challenge, Data Derby and Debate Day at Saint Vincent College, trips to the PA March for Life, ecology trip to Shawnee, the Fred Rogers Center, and Aviation Day at the Johnstown Airport are just a few of the things added. We have also had various presenters to the who student body and specific classes, including the PA State Police Cybercrime Unit, Dr. Renee Martin-Nagle, and more.

FAITH

  • Students requested First Friday Masses, and the Franciscan Friars answered! We have been blessed to begin this devotion, and Father David Dodd, TOR, Father Malachi Van Tassell, TOR, and Father Jason Wooleyhan, TOR, have come to celebrate these well-attended before school Masses. Many other guest priests have joined us for Mass this year, including Archabbot Martin from Saint Vincent, Bishop Mark Bartchak, Monsignor Stanley Carson, Father Brian Saylor, with more guest priests on the way.
  • Tony Conrad presented to the students on behalf of the Diocese Respect Life Committee, and Father Brian Norris and Sister Angela Marie Igou have presented on vocations. Father Justin Treon and Sister Angela Marie have also been leading vocation discernment groups.
  • Student and staff usage of the Hallow App is among the highest ranked schools in the country! To date, since the beginning of the school year, students and staff have used the app to pray nearly 5,000 prayers and nearly 60,000 minutes.

ATHLETICS

  • We have begun sports co-ops with Central Cambria for Swimming, Wrestling, and Football, and have seen participation from our students and junior high students in these sports. Northern Cambria will also be joining us for soccer in the fall.
  • District Championships were won in Cross Country and Boys Soccer, we had District 6 playoff participation from all sports, and state tournament appearances in Boys Soccer, Cross Country, and Girls Golf.
  • Student use of the weight room after school is high - both athletes and other students who would like to stay healthy!

DEVELOPMENT

  • Successful appeal campaigns, the establishment of new endowments, and a growth in both EITC and Named Scholarships have highlighted successful fundraising (please see the article on page ##).
  • High attendance at our recent fundraising events has illustrated great community support!

FACILITIES

  • Some of the biggest changes have been with the facility - complete painting of the building inside and out, more new windows added, front office renovation, BC store relocation, STEM labs in the process of upgrading including ventilation, lighting, and ceilings, handicap bathroom installed in the cafeteria, new exterior doors, electrical upgrades, a handicap ramp installed at the cafeteria entrance, resurfacing of the gym floor and locker room renovations are just a few of the major changes to our facility!

Thank you to all who have helped make these things happen! Stop by and see the changes on Husky Hill!
