Bishop Carroll Catholic High School was founded on the principles of the Catholic faith, and we stand as UNAPOLOGETICALLY CATHOLIC in the face of the world’s challenges. Here are a few faith-building experiences that are being provided to our students, beyond daily religion class, monthly Masses, class retreats, and seasonal Penance Services.
First Friday
For the last several years, religion classes have observed First Friday with Eucharistic Adoration and prayer devotions, and have carried that into weekly prayer opportunities. This year, with the help of the Franciscan Friars TOR, First Friday before school Masses are being celebrated. The “first” First Friday Mass, celebrated by Father David Dodd, was well attended by students and staff. As Father David explained to all in attendance, “It is JESUS who holds our life together!” The students also recited the Litany of the Sacred Heart during religion class. The idea of having First Friday devotions was initiated by students!
Confessions and Rosary
Father Andriy has begun hearing confessions twice a week, one day before school and one day after school. Additionally, students and staff take turns leading the Rosary before school each day in the chapel.
Bible Study
Brother Lazarus, TOR, has begun a Bible Study after school on Mondays with students.
Vocations Promotion
The students have “adopted” seminarian Brother Lawrence Hogue, of the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Spirit, (BC Class of 2014). The students pray for him. Father Brian Norris and Sister Angela Marie Igou will be making vocations presentations to all students at the end of September. Father Brian will also be looking to begin a discernment group with boys at Bishop Carroll.
Pro-Life Opportunities
Bishop Carroll is 100% pro-life. Mr. Tony Conrad and the Respect Life Committee presented their program to all religion classes. Julie Sadik from Students for Life also gave a presentation to the entire student body. Mr. Boland has organized students to attend the Pennsylvania March for Life in Harrisburg. Bishop Carroll is also the host site for the annual Pro-Life Breakfast in October, and the Pro-Life club volunteers at the event.
Hallow
All Bishop Carroll students and staff have access to the Hallow App, free of charge thanks to a grant from the Independent Catholic Foundation. The App is full of prayers, music, and inspirational talks.
Future Opportunities
Bishop Carroll is exploring the possibilities of students attending NCYC in Indianapolis, the March for Life in Washington, DC, and a summer Steubenville conference.
Additionally, our morning prayer focuses on specific saints and spiritual goals for our students. Monthly class Masses will also begin in October. The annual class retreats will also be scheduled in the upcoming weeks.
The faith is ALIVE at Bishop Carroll!
