Faculty Spotlight - Mrs. Wright

We are happy to welcome Mrs. Julie Wright to Bishop Carroll this year! Mrs. Wright is teaching Biology, Applied Chemistry, Ecology, and Zoology this year. She brings to Bishop Carroll a great deal of experience and enthusiasm.

Mrs. Wright grew up in Minnesota. Both of her parents were science teachers. She spent her vacations in national parks and never thought she would teach science. After being asked to do so once, she found that she enjoyed the students and the subjects, first teaching religion and then science. She met her husband in Colorado, moved to Pennsylvania, and had a daughter. Mrs. Wright stayed home with her before working in two schools and then coming to Bishop Carroll this summer.

When asked why she enjoys teaching biology, Mrs. Wright responded, “I have always loved researching and being in nature, so biology is a natural fit. Science, with all the chances to use the senses to investigate nature, is not only fun to teach, but reconnects us to our world in a way that I think is increasingly lost in our current virtual atmosphere. Hands-on experiences give a fuller education because they involve not just our mind, but connect our mind to our body, soul, and spirit.

Mrs. Wright has several new ideas for her classes, exploring the science of cooking in the Applied Chemistry class and creating indoor natural environments in the Ecology class. She also has many hands-on activities planned for her biology classes. She is hoping to develop a good curriculum for her classes and explore ways for students and herself to grow in understanding the subjects together. She said, “I find it best to trust in God for the future. He has never failed to make it exciting!” When asked what she is most looking forward to this year, Mrs. Wright answered, “Honestly, I am most looking forward to teaching again in a Catholic school! It is a joy to have the Blessed Sacrament only a few steps away. It brings such peace to my day!”

She is very impressed with what she has seen in the Bishop Carroll community so far. “It was an unexpected but pleasant surprise to find myself at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School at the end of the summer, and I have found nothing but spiritual peace, good humor with the staff, and amazing students. I think I am a little in shock at how wonderful it is!”

She asks that everyone keep her in their prayers that she may bring her best for the students. We will most certainly do that, and are grateful to have her on staff! We are looking forward to her many ideas and presence at BC for years to come!
