Bishop Carroll to Honor Five Individuals At Annual Gala

The Bishop Carroll Cornerstone Award will be given to those who have made a lasting impact on the school community.  This year’s awards will be presented to Mr. T. Edward Graffte and Mr. Patrick Sheridan.  Mr. Graffte is a long-time faculty member at the school, teaching computers, math, and physics.  He also created the successful Pen Club and has mentored countless students in the trade. Mr. Sheridan, Class of 1974, has been the voice of Huskies Athletics for over 40 years, announcing soccer, football, basketball, and volleyball games.  He has also sent all of his children through Bishop Carroll.

Three individuals will be bestowed with the Distinguished Alumni Award.  The recipients all used the foundations they received at Bishop Carroll and have made the world a better place.  The winners included:

1963 graduate Charlene (Chirdon) Carney, who upon graduation from BCCHS, established Charlene’s School of Dance in Cresson, which is still in operation over 60 years later.  Many Bishop Carroll students have studied dance with Charlene.

1971 graduate, Reverend Monsignor Stanley Carson, is a priest in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and is the Administrator of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Altoona.  He also previously served as Principal of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School from 1985 until 1990.

1981 graduate LouAnn (Rodgers) Hoffman is the owner/operator of Lang Real Estate based in Cresson, later completing her study to add a Tax Service to the business.  She has achieved several honors and recognition for her work in addition to her extensive list of community service.

The entire Bishop Carroll community is grateful for the contributions that these individuals have made to the school and the world at large.  More information about the Gala, including how to donate towards the event and how to purchase tickets can be found at www.bishopcarroll.com or on the school’s Facebook page.
