Nicholas Klamar ’02 Serves as Navy Drug & Alcohol Counselor

A 2002 Bishop Carroll Catholic High School graduate has spent years serving the nation in the U.S. Navy.

But these days his chief assignment is serving those who serve.

Petty Officer 1st Class Nicholas Klamar, a Cherry Tree native, spends his days as a hospital corpsman at Naval Medical Center San Diego, primarily serving as a drug and alcohol counselor.

High School Students Enjoy Latest Tech, Increased Productivity

1:1 Initiative Gives Students Access to Innovative Educational Solutions

Bishop Carroll is bringing students a new way to connect to their courses, teachers, classmates, and the world. The 1:1 Initiative just began this year, with all freshmen and sophomores receiving Acer laptops with touchscreen and tablet capabilities. Each is outfitted with email, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other useful software. Currently, about 110 students and all faculty have benefited from the program, which is funded by generous friends and alumni of BC.

Youth Alpha Kicks Off at Bishop Carroll

New Spirituality Course Life-Changing for Adults and Teens Alike

When Bishop Carroll art and religion instructor Karen Blaisdell first encountered the Alpha course at her Johnstown church, Our Mother of Sorrows, she was a bit skeptical. “I thought that I was strong in my Christian faith and that it might be good to try it, but could it really change my life? I didn’t think so. Boy, was I wrong!” she says in a letter addressing her fellow colleagues. It didn’t take long for her to realize this was a program that could greatly benefit both the students and faculty at Bishop Carroll.

Tim Surkovich ’80 Named “Hollidaysburg Borough Citizen of the Year”

On January 16, State Senator John Eichelberger presented Tim Surkovich with a plaque naming him “Hollidaysburg Borough Citizen of the Year,” and January 17, 2017 was “Tim Surkovich Day” in Hollidaysburg. Tim is the founder and president of the Project Diagnosis Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to utilize the power of music to support research, raise funds, and promote continued awareness of Multiple Sclerosis, a condition which Tim is living with.
